Scouting a family affair for Waddilove

For over 30 years, Patricia Waddilove has dedicated her time and support to developing young people through Scouting. Being the oldest of six children, Patricia (commonly known as Trish) knows all too well about the importance of being a leader and how creating a culture of giving benefits us all.

“I’ve been around kids my whole life.

“Being the oldest growing up I loved looking after my siblings and my family.

“When I came across Scouts, I was lucky enough to form another family. “That’s something I don’t take for granted”.

Trish has voulunteered countless ours of service right across Western Australia, from Kalamunda to Mindarie, Greenwood to Kinross. Along her travels Trish also met her now husband, Jeff, at a Scouts Gang Show.

The pair married in 1988 and as the Kalamunda Cub Leader at the time, Trish wanted to have her Pack involved with their special day.

The Group of 24 Cub Scouts made a Guard of Honour for the couple who tied the knot in Greenmount at the Church of Christ.

“It was a day I will never forget.

“What a special touch it was to have them there. “Scouts was and still is such a big part of my life”.

The mother of three believes Scouts not only teaches practical skills but important life skills.

“Scouts has taught my children leadership skills, confidence and to have pride in themselves.

“What they have learned in Scouting has carried through to their everyday life and I am really proud of the people they have turned into.

“My youngest, Simon, was a Joey Scout with Hampton Park Scout Group and has his heart set on working in law enforcement.

“My two girls were both Cubs and Scouts with Greenwood Scout Group. Nicole is a qualified Baker but is currently studying at university to pursue a career in Media and Lisa is an Occupational Therapist”.

Trish was awarded a Life Membership to the Association in 2018 and is currently the Assistant District Commissioner for the Joondalup and Wanneroo District.
