COVID-19 may have changed the way we do things, but it won’t stop Scouts camping!
Scouts WA and Manjedal Activity Centre joined Scouts from around the world to organise a Virtual Camp with an attempt to set the world record for the Largest Virtual Camp on 30 April 2020.
Scouts WA asked our Joeys, Cubs, Scouts, Venturers, Rovers, Leaders and Parents to join the fun. Our members grabbed their camp kits, packed their camp bags. Our Scouts built their dens at home, pitched their tents inside. Some of our adventurous scouts chose to camp in the backyard with their swags and hammocks. While undertaking their essential Scouting activities, many of the Youth Members assisted in cooking their own meal, even roasting marshmallows by their virtual campfire.
This is one example that shows Scouting does not stop, no matter where you are.
Our members were able to earn Camper Awards for each night they participated (as long as they were not sleeping in their normal bed). All participants received a virtual certificate, by taking part on 30/04/2020 they were a part the world record!
The final numbers for Scouts and Guides WA are 1501!
With world numbers from 20:00 hrs on 1 May 2020
Registrations – 70,061 and growing
Countries – 66
Top 10 Countries….. UK, Australia, USA, Canada, New Zealand, UAE, Jersey, Falkland Islands, Oman, Ireland
Numbers are still increasing
We would like to thank all our amazing Leaders who are doing a terrific job under the current COVID-19 circumstances. To our wonderful parents, who are supporting our Leaders to enable our Youth Members to take part in Scouting@Home, we give our gratitude.
