Community Warning | Scammer Alert
Scouts WA have received several reports that scammers, including adults and children, are door knocking asking for cash donations on the pretext that they are raising money to pay for Scouts to attend a Scout camp. Some are also claiming to be raising money for Scout Groups from other suburbs.
Please be aware that Scouts WA does not support or encourage our members to ask for cash donations.
Our youth members may fundraise by working with their local community attending community events, doing small jobs or collecting cans to recycle. They should be wearing full Scout uniform and would normally have a parent/guardian or a Scout Leader accompanying them when fundraising in these scenarios.
Scout Leaders and parent helpers are easily identified by the full scout uniform or a group activity shirt. Activities such as these are normally advertised via a specific Scout Group’s social media platforms or individual Scout Group’s website and will provide the Group Leader’s contact details to verify their fundraising work. These contact details can be cross checked against the Scout Group’s website (if they have one).
Areas that have been targeted include Armadale, Baldivis, Beeliar, Camillo, Cockburn, Ellenbrook, Maddington, Riverton, Seville Grove, Victoria Park and Yangebup.
If you are approached by someone claiming to collect money on behalf of Scouts WA, a Scout or Scout Group, please report it to the Consumer Protection Advise Line on 1300 304 054 (cost of a local call anywhere in WA).
