DESCRIPTION:Swan Descent is a one-day paddling expedition staring at Middle Swan Reserve in Middle Swan and finishing at Fishmarket Reserve in Guildford covering a distance of around 8km.\nThis event is perfect for groups who have done some paddling already and want to expand their skills with a longer paddle.\nIt is open to all Scouts\, Venturers and Rovers. Even if you don’t have qualified activity leaders in your group\, as the WA Scouts AA Paddling Council will provide on water leaders. \nTime: 8:30am – 3pm \nThis event will aslo count as a PD for any Leaders working on a Canoeing qualification. \nRegistrations close March 6th. Scouts have a huge program of Outdoor Adventure Skills covering nine areas. \nThe self-paced on demand modules focus on equipping a new Leader to lead in the three core areas of Bushcraft\, Bushwalking and Camping. \nThe following online modules can be found at training.scouts.com.au \nScouting Adventure on Demand Modules:\nSA E NAVIGATE – Elementary Navigation\nSA NAVIGATE – Navigation Skills\nSA COMM – Operate Communication Systems\nSA SITE – Camping Skills\nSA EQUIP – Equipment for Lightweight Camping\nSA BUSHPLAN – Bushwalking Skills\nSA GUIDE – Plan and Guide Outdoor Activities\nSA IMPACT – Minimal Environment Impact Practices\nSA WEATHER – Interpreting Weather\nSA GROUP – Group Facilitation\nSA EMERG A – Responding to Emergencies\nSA OUTDOOR PLAN – Planning for Outdoor Activities \nNot everything can be learnt online. SUMMARY:Scouting Leadership Course
DESCRIPTION:Eligibility – Rover Scouts\, Leaders\, Volunteers \nMax numbers – 30 participants \nScouting Leadership training builds on the skills and knowledge gained during previous training and the opportunity to have applied this learning in a practical environment. Scouting Leadership training comprises of On Demand Learning\, On the Job learning\, a Scouting Leadership face-to-face course and a project.\nLeveraging learning completed during the Scouting Leadership course\, a project of approximately 10 hours (over three months) will be initiated with a specific aim and goals for achievement.\nCompletion will usually be reviewed by the participant’s Team Leader as part of the final Wood Badge Evaluation step. In line with National Adult Training and Development Policies\, the Team Leader will often be the Group Leader or line manager (if they have achieved a Wood Badge themselves). Identification of the project supervisor will occur during the Scouting Leadership course.\nOn completion of Scouting Leadership and after a period of evaluation (four months minimum)\, Leaders receive:\n• Wood Badge (wooden beads)\n• Parchment\n• Gilwell Scarf (International membership of 1st Gilwell Park Scout Group) \nRegister through ScoutMap HERE. DESCRIPTION:Challenge yourself or your unit and join us on a bike ride from Pelican Point Scout Group to Rockingham Scout Group (Approximately 50k’s with breaks throughout the day on the Saturday – 100k’s if you ride back on the Sunday).\nDecide if you want to have pickup on Sunday morning or ride back to Pelican Point in a patrol. \nDay 1: Friday 4th April 6pm – Join us at Pelican Point Scout Group for an evening meal (Provided) and sleep in your hike tent. \nDay 2: After 7am breakfast on Saturday\, ride in patrols to Rockingham Scout Group via Fremantle (buy your own lunch in Fremantle) – Dinner Provided & Sleep in your hike tent again at Rockingham Scout Group. \nDay 3: Sunday – be picked up by 8.00am or ride back to Pelican Point in a patrol\, buying your own lunch on the way. Participants can call parents near to the time they need to be picked up. \nBy the end of the hike participants should be able to tick off most of level 1-3 Cycling if you bring your own bike repair kit or sign off an SIA in Personal Growth – something like “I am going to improve my knowledge and skills in bike riding” – get your patrols approval before coming as you will need to review it with them when you return. \nRegister through ScoutMap HERE. You might be lost or injured on a 6 hour bushwalk\, and you need to spend the night. Perhaps you fell in a river and lost the contents of your pack and you are several kilometers down river with no map\, no tents and no matches. You need a fire and shelter. Do you know what to do? \nLearn what to carry in personal survival kits\, how to build a variety of shelters\, how to light a fire with no matches\, and how to deal with staying alive with limited resources until help arrives. \nPrerequisites required for Scout Australia On Demand Modules \nKnowledge of Knots – \n\n\n\nBowline\nSheet bend\nPrussic knot\nRolling hitch\n\n\n\nSafe Participant Course Details\nWhere: Held at Mandejal Camping Huts\nOpen to: Venturers\, Rovers and Leaders\nSelf Catered: Fridays nights trail steak/foil pack. Saturday one pot meal. \nBring your own hiking gear. Self catered. Tea/coffee\, fruit\, snacks and biscuits provided. The prerequisites to attend are completion of the above modules and having attended and Completed Scouting Essentials Course.\nOnce all pre requisites are met\, please register for the Scouting Adventure course. Your GL will be sent an authorisation email to confirm you can attend the course and have met all prerequisites. \nRegister through ScoutMap HERE. Registrations Close 6 June 2025. \nFor assistance with ScoutMap please see the Handbook. \nFor further assistance please lodge a support ticket through ScoutMap or email events@scoutswa.com.au supplying information on the person registering and error or problem preventing registration.  Please note that ScoutMap support tickets are the preferred method of contact and will be responded to as a priority and that assistance will be provided to support you in completing your registration rather than completing registrations on your behalf.
