Help Desk Information

If you are having problems, please check the two points below first, then move to plan B below!

1. Is your browser set up correctly?

In your browser of choice you need to:-

enable cookies from the two domains that we use

enable popup windows for the same two domains

scoutswa.com.au and scouts.org.au

Preferably use a wildcard match. The wildcard character is SHIFT plus NUMERAL 8 key or the asterisk character.

(something like this - *scoutswa.com.au & *scouts.org.au will work)

Enabling these features for these domains does not lower your security on the Internet, but does allow you to interact better with the scout website with minimal problems.

Extra info for you:

When you log into the Members’ area, cookies are used by the CMS [software running on the web server] to authenticate your session and allow you to access any restricted material. All other areas of the website do not require you to authenticate or login as they are public and available to all.

2. Are you using the correct login details?

Be aware that there are three scout websites that Leaders can access, ALL requiring some form of authentication:-

  • ScoutsWA - this website

  • Scoutrak - the database used to keep membership records

  • Scout Webmail - used by some leaders

At this point in time, you need three sets of login credentials; if you get them mixed up you will have problems.

Still having problems? Plan B!

When you have problems accessing anything on the website, simply saying "I can’t login or can’t get a form”, is not enough information for us to give you a solution or identify any website issues that may cause problems. Additional information like the browser type and version can be a great help, along with any antivirus, spyware or security software that may be running on the computer and/or if you are on a corporate LAN or working behind some sort of firewall.

  • Have you tried reloading the page? (ether the RELOAD button on the browser or the F5 key)

  • Did your problem start recently and/or after a software update/upgrade?

  • Did your operating system do an automated update?

  • Have you changed your firewall settings?

  • Have you or someone else changed any configuration settings anywhere?

  • Have you installed any new software? (This may have made some changes too)

  • Have you tried disabling the firewall and antivirus software temporarily?

  • Does the problem go away and come back?

Simply put, if things were working fine and now they are not, please check your system FIRST.

  • Do you have access to another computer to verify a problem exists?

  •
Have you asked someone else to verify your problem?

If you get a different result, then there may not be a problem with the website.

Now, having tried some or all of the above, you may have a problem that is not at your end, but somewhere else. Please see the link to information on known problems and any work-a-rounds. If your problem is not listed then you may have identified a new one.

Lodge your problem with the Branch Office so:-

  • We can help you solve your problem!

  • Identify a new problem

  • Identify an ongoing problem

The aim is always to provide a reliable resource for you to use, and your feed back is integral to that process.
